珠心算网络大赛提升自律性 Students' Self-Discipline improved by participating in Online Competition

第三届“豆苗启智杯”珠心算网络国际大赛于2022年1月9日圆满结束，参赛者主要都来自槟城峇六拜超人分校。

家庭聚会中有时会发生长辈阻止晚辈使用电子产品，尤其是打手游，因为会影响他们的视力，更何况是网络珠心算比赛。当家长听到老师对其孩子的肯定，有资格参加比赛之后，难免会产生质疑：我的孩子那么小，他/她怎么知道去操作那电子产品，怎么晓得网络比赛呢？

其实，网络比赛中除了老师，家长也扮演了非常的角色。每一次的线上或自家训练，老师会要求家长陪同，尤其是幼儿组的选手，以确保孩子是否滥用电子产品。此外，家长还需替屏幕前老师给的指示，现场向孩子传达，犹如老师的克隆，监督着孩子。

在家长与老师的配合以及督促之下，不管是线上还是实体的比赛，选手们都能够突破自己，挑战成功，培养坚持不懈的精神。在疫情期间，通过种种的训练，选手不但提升了自身的计算能力，更是提高了他们的自律性。老师与家长会发现，在正确的引导之下，孩子学会分配练习和写作业时间、学会设定目标记录每一次练习的分数以及如何正确使用电子产品等等。

Participants from Bayan Lepas Superman School had successfully passed the third Dou Miao Qi Zhi Bei Abacus Mental Arithmetic International Online Competition on 9th January 2022 with flying colours.

In family gatherings, sometimes we might experience some elders not allowing the children to hold any smart electronic devices, especially when they use them for games because it will affect the children's eyesight and cause addiction, not to mention online competition. Parents might be wondering once they were told by the teacher that their child is eligible to register for the online competition: Does my child know how to use the device? Will my child know the instructions about the competition?

First, to clear parents' doubts, teachers would need parents to accompany every participant during the online training. Besides teachers, parents play an important role as well, because parents are the teachers at home. They help teachers to convey the instructions that given on the spot, for example, show the kids which button to select or adjust the right sitting posture.

With teachers and parents' cooperation, participants will turn into a real player whether it is an online or a physical competition. Children learn to face challenges, breakthrough themselves, and stick to the end of this journey. Other than achieving the good results from the competition, another benefits that children achieved was the improvement of their calculation skills and self-discipline. They were trained to manage their study and training timetable, record their score and set up goals. The most importantly, players learn not to misuse the smart electronic devices.
